Sailing Mida Creek: A Dhow Safari at Golden Hour

Aboard our traditional dhow “Pepo Huru”, the afternoon slips into gold. Here’s what a sunset safari across Mida Creek looks and feels like.

Few things capture the spirit of the Kenyan coast like a dhow under sail. Our traditional boat, Pepo Huru, carries you across Mida Creek as the light turns to honey, a highlight of any stay in our bubble lodges.

Casting off into the blue

We leave from the jetty as the tide fills the creek. Within minutes the mangroves close behind you and the water opens into every shade of turquoise.

Dolphins, snorkelling and quiet water

On calm days pods of dolphins join the boat. We drop anchor over clear shallows to snorkel, then drift while the crew prepares fresh fruit and a sparkling toast. It is one of many activities and experiences we can arrange.

The sunset toast

As the sun lowers, the whole creek glows. This is the moment guests remember, glass in hand, sails full, Watamu turning gold behind you. Back on shore, dinner waits at our panoramic restaurant.

How to book
